ABOUT THE COMMERCIAL NETTING BAN

Under new legislation which has passed the Victorian State Parliament, all commercial net fishing in Port Phillip Bay will be shut down by April 2022. The government is closing net fishing in one of Australia's oldest fisheries, which has existed for over 170 years, and in one whose practices are some of the most sustainable in the world. There is not one environmental, commercial or ecological reason to not continue what we have always done. At Vancouver Fisheries, we're eager to set the record straight in the hope that this decision can be reviewed. The fish in our water belongs to the public. It is our resource for everyone to enjoy. Please help to secure your future local fish supply by writing to your local MP. You can use this letter which outlines all of the key points.
